1. Front-end Developer (Cape Town & New Delhi)

Our team currently has two vacancies for a Front-end Developer (one in Cape Town, one in New Delhi) who will be reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The successful individual should be self-driven to execute tasks with limited supervision.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Work with the planning and design teams to agree the best approach to each project
  • Develop HTML documents based purely on hi-resolution wireframes
  • Take sign-off Photoshop layouts and create CSS
  • Develop client-side functionality using unobtrusive JavaScript
  • Create templates and themes for implementation onto Content Management Systems
  • Work with implementation teams to guarantee the quality of the finished product
  • Research the latest, cutting-edge front-end technologies and techniques

Mandatory skills

  • Fluency in HTML and CSS
  • Ability to develop clear coded, standards-compliant, semantic, cross-browser interfaces
  • Ability to develop interfaces using progressive enhancement and/or graceful degradation techniques
  • Experience in front-end optimization techniques
  • Knowledge in HTML5 and CSS3
  • Knowledge in JavaScript, including closures and prototyping
  • Experience consuming external APIs via JavaScript (i.e.: Twitter, Google Apps, Flickr)
  • Experience using jQuery library
  • Basic Adobe Photoshop

Desirable Skills

  • Web Design skills
  • SVN and/or Git
  • Good grasp of server-side technologies, especially PHP and MySQL
  • Knowledge or interest in usability, information architecture and user experience
  • Experience or interest in working in Agile environments

Qualifications and Experience

  • B. Computer Science or B. Graphic Design
  • Web technology/Internet experience
  • Previous agency experience
  • Experience in Internet startups would be beneficial



2. Back-end Developer (New Delhi)

Reporting to the COO you will be responsible for designing, building and deploying a variety of applications at one of the world’s leading Internet companies.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Create new systems and maintain existing systems
  • Design, implement and test scalable and secure applications
  • Contribute to product design and innovation
  • Be prepared to travel overseas if required
  • Consult to clients if required
  • Maintain an online presence and be active in the PHP community

Mandatory skills

  • Experience developing using Object Oriented language
  • Willingness to learn and apply new technologies quickly. This may include other programming languages

Desirable skills

  • PHP
  • Good relational database skills
  • Experience with ORM tools
  • REST, Web Services, SQL, XML, JavaScript, XHTML, CSS
  • Web 2.0 methodologies including AJAX

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years programming experience in the relevant fields
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is recommended
  • UML experience will be advantageous
  • Agile development experience will be advantageous

Other

  • A passion for the web, particularly social networking and the long tail
  • Experience in Internet startups a bonus.
  • Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Thai or Russian language skill a bonus.

 

3. Data manager (Cape Town)

A vacancy exists for a Data Manager reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.

The successful individual should be self-driven to execute tasks with limited supervision.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Curation of reporting data across numerous businesses within the group
  • Verification and validation that data presented through the executive reporting platform is as received from the business units.
  • Interaction with business unit representatives to ensure data is timeously captured
  • Interaction with business units to resolve queries on data formats and reporting standards
  • Administration of backend capture system to control user access and permission
  • Training new users in the capture of date through the web interface
  • Capture of new requirement for the ongoing development of the executive reporting platform

Mandatory skills

  • Familiarity with MS Office suite of tools
  • Good grasp of fundamental statistical concepts and functions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to deal with people at various levels in the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills

  • Advanced MS Excel skills – data management and manipulation through Excel
  • Knowledge or interest in application development for business users
  • Experience or interest in working in Agile environments
  • Experience with Google Analytics and other web analytics packages

Qualifications and Experience

  • B. Degree in business or Diploma in business analysis
  • Experience in business analysis and requirements gathering role
  • Experience in liaison in a large multi-faceted organization
