I attended the 13th edition of OSCON, the open source convention in Portland, Oregon. OSCON is a great technical conference covering the whole spectrum of open source. The sheer volume and diversity of content had my inner geeks wrestling over which particular talk or tutorial to go to. Here are some of the stand out sessions I attended. I will throw in some of the “not so hot sessions” towards the end.

Open Space Technology (OST) is a fast, cheap and simple way for a group of diverse people to create productive and inspired meetings or events. It is entirely self-organizing with no set agenda and program. The participants set the agenda so only the issues that are important them are dealt with.

All activities in OST also take place in a circle to emphasize equality. Everyone is facing each other to level the ground between knowers and learners. Leadership is shared and no matter how much you think you know, you constantly move between being the knower and learner.
