As head of the most talented group of technologists in Naspers, and CTO of the world's most interesting media company - I work in my dream job. 20 years as a technologist, complemented by post graduate qualifications in econometrics and knowledge management. My interests are focused on technology and future research. I read, a lot. Travel, good food and gadgets make me happy.

At the beginning of every year we are faced with the challenge of formulating a business strategy for the coming year. In our case, technology is the underlying driver for everything we do. Fortunately there is no shortage of pundits to provide insight into what technology is expected to bring in the coming year.
But do we push the envelope hard enough ? Do we work our imaginations hard enough?

The launch of the iPad caused yet another wave of Apple hysteria around the globe, not least in media and technology companies such as ours. Having used the device now for almost two months, I find that it has added a new dimension to my views on what convergence means in the technology and media industries.
